The Impact of Population Growth in Zanzibar Economy
(COSTECH, 2017-08) COSTECH
Zanzibar Population Policy (2008) had noted that rapid population growth with low economic growth increases consumption, decreases investment and slows down the overall growth of national output by reducing the rate of capital formation. It also increases public spending on education, health and other public services (ZPP, 2016). The Policy further makes specific reference to the importance of sustainable development for all by creating synergy between population issues, resources, human settlements and environment.
Over the past two decades, Zanzibar has recorded significant growth of the economy. Notable achievements have also been realised in specific areas; child mortality has declined, child marriage minimized, maternal services improved, GDP has increased, inflation maintained to single digit and an increase in life expectancy, among other achievements. That notwithstanding, Zanzibar is still challenged by a number of issues that are linked with population growth

Zanzibar Blue Economy Policy
(Zanzibar Planning Commission, 2020-10) Zanzibar Planning Commission
The Zanzibar Development Vision 2050 regards the blue economy as a priority area for the next 30 years, serving as an effective and sustainable means of improving livelihoods and transforming the economy. The blue economy policy has thus been developed as a guiding framework for the implementation of the sea-based economy for the coming decade.
The blue economy policy aims to work in the following priority areas: fisheries and aquaculture, maritime trade and infrastructure, energy, tourism and marine and maritime governance. Through the implementation of this policy, Zanzibar has the opportunity to increase employment, improve the balance of trade, promote food and nutritional security and maintain environmental resilience. Subsequently, by 2030, given the effective operationalisation of the policy, we expect Zanzibar to be the leading hub for blue economy activities in the Western Indian Ocean region.

Improving Management Strategies for Sustainable Fishery in Zanzibar
(Tanzania Commission of Science and Technology (COSTECH), 2021-05) Tanzania Commission of Science and Technology (COSTECH)
Fishery resources are a vital source of food and make valuable economic contributions to the local communities in Zanzibar. Irrespective of the increase of the total catch being currently reported, there is a sign of decline in catch per unit effort due to increasing number of fishers, vessels, gears, and fish demand resulting from increasing population and tourists. Also human and environmental factors such as pollution, illegal fishing and climate change contribute to the imbalance of the catch-ability of the fisheries resources contributing to the negative impact to livelihood support. Improved management strategy for these resources is recommended for improving livelihoods and the sustainability of the fishery resource.support, and improvement of local business prominence for consideration for the transition.

Ripoti Kuhusu Utozaji Kodi Shughuli ya Uvuvi wa Bahari Kuu
(Tanzania Revenue Authority(TRA), 2018-08-11) Tanzania Revenue Authority ( TRA )
