Zanzibar Population Policy (2008) had noted that rapid population growth with low economic growth increases consumption, decreases investment and slows down the overall growth of national output by reducing the rate of capital formation. It also increases public spending on education, health and other public services (ZPP, 2016). The Policy further makes specific reference to the importance of sustainable development for all by creating synergy between population issues, resources, human settlements and environment. Over the past two decades, Zanzibar has recorded significant growth of the economy. Notable achievements have also been realised in specific areas; child mortality has declined, child marriage minimized, maternal services improved, GDP has increased, inflation maintained to single digit and an increase in life expectancy, among other achievements. That notwithstanding, Zanzibar is still challenged by a number of issues that are linked with population growth
